EGDI Data Search

(EGDI PRIMARY TOOL)

EGDI Data Search

The EGDI Data Search tool allows users to discover European geological datasets and associated metadata from multiple countries and projects through a single interface.

Users can explore harmonised geological datasets covering topics such as groundwater monitoring, geological mapping, subsurface properties and environmental conditions. The tool provides access to time-series data, near-real-time groundwater-level information, and standardised indices for scientific analysis and decision-making.

By providing structured metadata and a consistent geological data model, the Data Search tool enables efficient data discovery, comparison and reuse for research, planning and environmental monitoring.

Discover European geological datasets and structured metadata

EGDI Data Search is the central entry point for discovering and accessing harmonised European geological datasets and metadata. It helps users find relevant resources across multiple providers and themes, evaluate suitability through structured descriptions, and then view, filter and download results in the Data Search application.

What you can find with EGDI Data Search

Use the tool to explore datasets and metadata across key domains, including:

  • Groundwater and aquifers: groundwater level time series, near-real-time groundwater data, shallow and deep groundwater levels and related monitoring information.
  • Standardised indicators: resources supporting analysis and reporting through harmonised indices (e.g., standardised groundwater index use cases).
  • Geoscience themes and projects: discover datasets contributed through EGDI scientific themes and European projects, with consistent metadata that supports comparison and reuse.

Who is Data Search for?

  • Researchers & analysts: faster discovery of comparable datasets for modelling and reporting.
  • Environmental monitoring and water managers: access to groundwater monitoring resources and time series to support operational decisions.
  • GIS and technical users: structured metadata and consistent dataset descriptions to support interoperability workflows.

How to use Data Search (3 steps)

  1. Open the EGDI Data Search from this page and enter keywords related to your topic (e.g., groundwater recharge, aquifer, CO₂ storage, coastal flooding).
  2. Review results and metadata to confirm coverage, methods and suitability before selecting data.
  3. Filter and download the data subsets you need, or connect results to related EGDI resources (themes, projects, and catalogues).
