Map Services and Layers
Map Services and Layers
List of all the map layers accessible on the map viewer.
It shows whether the layer has metadata and the current status of the corresponding WMS or WFS web service (if it is working).
Check available EGDI map layers, metadata and service status
Map Services and Layers provides a consolidated list of the map layers accessible in the EGDI Map Viewer. For each layer, you can see whether metadata is available and check the current status of the corresponding web service—helping you quickly understand what is usable right now for visualisation, interoperability and GIS workflows.
Why this page matters for GIS and interoperability
When you work with external clients or desktop GIS software, knowing whether a service is available (and whether a layer is properly described with metadata) saves time and reduces integration issues. Use this page as a “health check” before connecting layers via web services and before documenting data sources in reports and projects.
What you can do here
- Browse layers that can be displayed in the EGDI Map Viewer.
- Verify metadata availability to understand dataset scope, methods and constraints.
- Check service status to confirm whether the related web service is currently working.
- Navigate to related tools (Metadata Catalogue, Data Search) to go from a layer to its documentation and associated resources.
Recommended workflow (3 steps)
- Start here to confirm a layer is available and identify whether it has metadata.
- Open the Metadata Catalogue to review the full metadata record and constraints (licence/usage, scale, methods).
- Use the Map Viewer for visual exploration or connect the layer via web services in your GIS workflow.
