EGDI boreholes
EGDI contains data on different sets of boreholes.
One of these is a “Borehole” index developed with EPOS, which contains relatively little information directly in the dataset. Currently, only a WMS service is available on EGDI for this dataset. Still, a WFS with filtering options and links to detailed information about the boreholes will also be available in the future.
Another example is a national borehole dataset from Denmark.
Borehole information for subsurface understanding
Borehole data is a key source of information about the subsurface, supporting applications such as geological modelling, hydrogeology, engineering geology and resource assessments. The EGDI Boreholes theme helps users discover borehole-related resources from different organisations and projects, including the Borehole Index developed with EPOS.
What is available through EGDI today
EGDI currently provides access to borehole-related resources through web map services. For the Borehole Index, the focus is on enabling users to locate boreholes and identify where to obtain more detailed information from the relevant data provider. At present, a WMS service is available for this dataset.
Recommended workflow (3 steps)
- Explore borehole layers in the Geological Map Viewer of Europe and confirm availability in Map Services and Layers.
- Review the metadata record to understand the scope, coverage and access routes to detailed information.
- Discover related resources via EGDI Data Search and consult the Document Repository for supporting reports where relevant.
